Find a date...

We met in the first class of the year - Engineering Mechanics. Nathan’s only interest was that there was a new student and Sharla was just interested in staying below the radar on her first day in a new place. But eventually, as our friend groups started to merge, we started to hang out more and more, both in and out of class. Finally, after deciding he was ready to bite the bullet, Nathan asked Sharla out on the 1st of May 2014. Spoilers: she agreed.

Get engaged…

It was a beautiful day for picking lavender at the Blue Mountain Lavender Farm in Walla Walla, WA.

There’s some saying about “those who struggle together, stay together,” right? Even if there isn’t, it rang true for us. We commiserated about ridiculous test questions modeling toy dynamics, bickered about the wiring of our classic T-bird tail-light circuit, pulled many late nights, and celebrated when we made it to graduation in one piece.

However, it wasn’t quite the end. Sharla was accepted to a Master’s program at UCSD while Nathan was offered a job in Sacramento, leaving us facing the question, “what happens next?” We decided to brave the challenges of long-distance, and as they say, the rest is history. At the end of Sharla’s Master’s program, we celebrated by visiting some friends in Walla Walla for the 4th of July, but Nathan had something else up his sleeve. On the 2nd of July, 2018, Nathan asked Sharla to marry him, surrounded by friends and endless fields of lavender.

Get married!

After nearly 4 years of long distance, we are so excited to start a new chapter in our lives together. We can’t wait to celebrate with our family and friends on the 3rd of May, 2020! It’s been quite the adventure for us to get to where we are today, but in the end,
it was easy as 1-2-3!

* Any and all actions taken following this 3-step method should be carried out at your own risk (of finding a special someone). Mileage may vary (but it worked for us).
CAUTION: In some rare cases, wedding plans may be disrupted by a global pandemic. In cases like these, attempt to just go with the flow and avoid panic. Remember that at the end of the day, you still have your special someone, and that’s what it’s really all about anyway.
